Your flight arrives in Cochin, at the Cochin International Airport [Code COK]. Our tour representative will receive you and transfer you to your hotel.
Cochin, which is Kerala’s most prolific, cosmopolitan city, is actually a collection of narrow islands just off the main coast. This city often endears visitors with its old world charm, with a distinct presence of English, Dutch & Portuguese influences of the past still visible in the city’s architecture & lifestyle even today, along with a scenic location enhanced by lush green plantations, expansive coastal backwaters and numerous lakes.
In the afternoon you will proceed to explore Cochin with a sightseeing tour that includes the Hill Palace Museum, a fully-fledged archaeological museum and the state’s first Heritage Museum (closed on Mondays). You will next see the Mattanchery Palace (Dutch Palace), built by the Portuguese in the mid 1550′s ( closed on Fridays).
You then visit the St Francis Church, one of India’s oldest European churches, established in the early 1550′s. Vasco da Gama, a Portuguese explorer, was buried here in 1562 before his body was taken to Portugal 14 years later.
Lastly, you will visit the historic Jewish Paradesi Synagogue, constructed in 1568 – the oldest Synagogue in the Commonwealth (closed on Saturdays and on Jewish Holidays). The area surrounding the Synagogue, called Jew Town, is famous for its variety of Spice and Handicraft shops.
Return to your hotel for a well deserved rest.
Later in the evening, you will be taken to watch a traditional Indian Classical dance of Kerala- the Kathakali. This is a very interesting expressionist dance where the male dancer is adorned with heavy facial make up and face paint in preparation for his character.
