Indians are generally speaking quite religious and spiritual, and as a consequence, there are numerous temples in India, and these tend to be constructed with a lot of love and respect. Some of these temples have been so beautiful and grand that they have become world famous. Here are selected photos of Indian temples which are tourist attractions , such as the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab , the Meenakshi Temple in South India and the Khajuraho Temples in Central India.
The Golden Temple, Amritsar city, Punjab:
Known properly as the ‘Harmandhir Sahib’, it is the holiest place of worship for Sikhs, constructed in the 16th Century by the fourth Sikh guru, Guru Ramdaas Sahib Ji: There are 4 doors to let people in, symbolizing Sikhism’s openness to every person of any religion. Credit
Meenakshi Amman Temple, Madurai Town, Tamil Nadu:
Located in the 2500 year old temple city of Madurai, this historic Hindu temple dedicated to the Goddess Parvati was completed in 1655AD in present form, though its origins are traced to much earlier. Vaishno Devi Mandir, Jammu:
One of the holiest shrines for Hindus, Vaishno Devi Temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga, also known as ”Mata Rani”. Though perhaps not a tourist attraction, this temple, located in the Mountains north of Jammu town, is considered a must visit for every Hindu at least once in their lifetime, and many who visit do so out of utmost faith and pure conviction.
